Caeciliidae:
Caeciliids range from 90-1600 mm in total length! This is the largest of the caecilian families with 21 genera and 95 species. Life histories range from having direct development (South America, Africa, India and Seychelles), aquatic larvae (South America, Seychelles and Ethiopia), and viviparity (New World and Africa). Most caeciliids are burrowers and most lack a true tail and have relatively few to no secondary body annuli. Species with only primary annuli also lack dermal scales (as in other caecilians with only primary annuli). Eyes are covered by skin and in some species by bone. The tentacular opening lies variably between the nostril and eye. Coloration ranges from ground color to orange, yellow, pink or bluish. This family is most likely paraphyletic.
